Black viewers are streaming video and news programming in unprecedented numbers, and a group of television veterans are leading the industry in serving consumers where they are looking for content.
According to a recent survey, Black viewers spend the most time watching streaming services, with 62% of those viewers saying streaming is the most relevant platform for stories depicting Black life and culture.Nielsen Diverse Intelligence Series report. Brett Dismuke, GM, ALLBLK and WE tv
Veteran Programming Executive bei AMC NetworksWide DismukeAs the general manager of the cable network, he has his hands full with cross-platform programmingwe watch tvand streaming serviceTODOBLK.
Promoting Dismuke's efforts has the ultimate goal of providing Black viewers with quality, entertaining and relevant programming, particularly streaming via ALLBLK. "A lot of people of my generation grew up with the images that we have and could see," he said. "Now that we are able to control these images, I take it upon myself to lead this ship."
Disguise monitoredthe 2020 rebranding of the Urban Movie Channel streaming service– formerly owned by BET founder Robert Johnson – joined ALLBLK and created a service that offers original screenplays and reality shows as well as short films for black viewers. Especially scripted series like the sitcompartners rhyme, starring legendary hip-hop artist MC Lyte, as well as the drama seriesshared a house(which premiered its fifth season last month) andset up a trap, have helped Dismuke grow subscribers and viewership for the service for consecutive quarters, according to AMC.

For Dismuke, the ability to get popular reality content from WE tv, e.g. B. Serieslove after prison,In addition to offering original screenplay comedy series such asMillennialsand dramas likeMonogamy,ALLBLK provides a large library of diverse content that explores all aspects of the black experience.
"I want people to see ALLBLK as a pioneer of equality justice," he said. "Nothing in life is 100% good, and sharing depictions of black and brown narratives should be no different. I want ALLBLK to be seen as a teller of the truth and an equal participant in our stories."
The entrepreneurial executive and producer, who ran his own company So Chi Entertainment and also served as CEO of independent urban production company The Swirl Group before joining AMC Networks, said it's critical that black consumers have viewing options across platforms.
"Having access to a reflection of yourself can define or destroy how someone sees themselves," he said. "It's great that some big services and networks are offering a small portion of black content, but having services that focus on highlighting the great diversity of our stories is a complete game changer."

BET's efforts to expand its iconic linear broadcast cable brand with the launch ofBET PlusIn 2019, it paid off in 2022 with Emmy Award nominations for exclusive comedy seriesDie Frau Pat Showand drama seriesThe goalkeeper.
BET Plus' main fee to reach black viewers on the show isDevin Griffin, which has overseen the operation of the service since its inception. Led by Griffin, the service offers more than 2,000 hours of content including a variety of original series from a variety of producers including Tyler Perry, Kenya Barris, Lee Daniels, Pat Williams, Kirk Franklin and other top black content creators.
"BET Plus empowers us to speak about the diverse perspectives and interests of the Black community and those who love Black programs and stories," Griffin said. "We think our advantage is that we can tell stories from a unique, but overall compelling and relatable place."

In 2022, the service was recognized with Emmy nominations for goldThe goalkeeper, which received a nomination for Best Choreography for a Written Program for its portrayal of black Pullman workers after World War I and its original comedyDie Frau Pat Show, which received a nomination for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series. The series follows the exploits of a convicted felon-turned-wife, mother, and comedian in the suburbs.
A star of the Ms. Pat Show, J. Bernard Callowaysaid the show's Emmy nomination is a validation of the quality of content BET Plus produces under Griffin's direction.
"It's great to be part of a project that made history for [BET Plus]," he said. "The nomination is basically the respect of our colleagues and the recognition of how good the program is."
Griffin said the recognition helps raise awareness for BET Plus and confirms its strategic business plan is headed in the right direction.
"One of the great drivers for me is being able to help expand the way Black stories and experiences are portrayed," he said. "With BET Plus, we've been able to expand the canvas to paint on."
Geraldine Moriba, SVP of News, Entertainment and Education, theGrio
Emmy and Peabody Award-winning producer, journalist, and researcher at Stanford University's Brown InstituteGeraldine Moribasuccessfully combines the news and information originally produced by Allen Media Group across multiple distribution platforms to create a winning formula for black media.
Complementing Grio's exclusive news and entertainment website and foundational cable network Grio.tv, in 2022 Moriba launched Grio's broadcast network and mobile app dedicated to programming and featuring exclusive black voices. He also founded the Grio Black Podcast Network, which offers more than five weekly podcasts on political, social, and entertainment topics affecting black culture.

Moriba, who expanded theGrio's reach beyond media before joining theGrio in 2021, produced documentary series for PBS such assinking citiesmichase the dreamby the production company Moriba Media, also developed and maintainedtheGrio-Awards, celebrating excellence in entertainment and social justice. Moriba has already integrated Black News Channel's on-air personalities Marc Lamont Hill and Ebony K. Williams into its news and information strategy.Creation of daily news programs for bothwhich will run on Grio's cross-platform offerings.
Moriba's number one goal is to ensure that black stories and issues are heard across all platforms, he said.
